District Seeks Community Input on 2009-10 Budget Priorities
As the Auburn School District develops the 2009-10 budget, parents, staff and community members were invited to attend one of the community forums to provide input about spending priorities within Auburn School District. Input and opinions gathered through the forums will help guide the district’s budget decisions.
Increased state expenses coupled with decreased revenue have created a bleak budget outlook for school districts throughout Washington State, as districts rely heavily on state funding. Over 71 percent of the Auburn School District budget is funded by the state. Auburn School District, along with all of Washington’s school districts, will receive fewer funds for K-12 programs in the 2009-10 and 2010-11 school years.
The state projects a $9 billion deficit for the 2009-2011 biennium, and the number could continue to grow due to the current state and national economic climate. The full picture of Auburn School District’s budget shortfall will be made clear after the state adopts a final budget in April.
