School Breakfast and Lunch Information

Auburn School District School Breakfast and Lunch Programs:

Each day, Child Nutrition Services kitchen staff prepares and serves more than 4,000 breakfasts and 8,000 lunches—meeting USDA nutritional goals and Dietary Guidelines. In addition to partnering with local farmers to bring fresh and often organic produce into our cafeterias, the Child Nutrition Department has its own organic orchard (with 45 fruit trees) and organic garden where student garden clubs and the “Summer Food Academy” are based. Organic produce from the Child Nutrition garden is used in our summer feeding program sites and in the early fall for the USDA lunch program. School cafeterias are classrooms where children can learn about food and nutrition. In each high school, a professional chef—also a certified teacher—instructs the culinary arts to students interested in preparing for a career in the food service industry or learning more about food and nutrition.

Schools use computers to maintain balances for individual student accounts. All students (free, reduced or full price) use a PIN number to access their account. Meals may be prepurchased in any amount. Prepaying into your child’s account is encouraged (this ensures money for meals and faster moving lines of service). Please make checks payable to Auburn School District and give to the kitchen staff (include the student’s name, PIN number, grade and teacher’s name on the check). For your convenience (and a small fee), prepayments can be made online at www.mymealtime.com. To enroll in the free and reduced-price programs, fill out the application sent home the first day of school and return to the school kitchen.

This year, a new online application form for Free and Reduced is available. To apply online, click -here-. Parents of new students will receive an application upon enrollment. Applications are also available at every school office, every school kitchen, and on the district website at Child Nutrition Services. A new application must be completed each year. You may apply or reapply for meal benefits at any time during the year. Please list the entire family (and all students) on one family application. Foster children also may be eligible for these benefits.

During the summer months, the school district partners with community agencies to provide free meals in city parks, local churches, apartment complexes and schools. Visit Child Nutrition Services for more information.
