Auburn School District's Board of Directors to Honor Staff Member Lisa Gallinatti
The Auburn School District Board of Directors will recognize Lisa Gallinatti, teacher-librarian at Auburn Riverside High School, for her outstanding service on Monday, October 26, at 7 p.m. in the board room at the James P. Fugate Administration Building.
Lisa Gallinatti, teacher-librarian at Auburn Riverside High School, works collaboratively with teachers to equip students with twenty-first century research skills. Students learn how to navigate through an information-rich society. According to Lisa, “Students can access information in so many more ways than when I was in school. It can be very daunting, so my job is to help these students evaluate the information and consider its credibility, relevancy and currency.”
Some of Lisa’s favorite sayings are: “Don’t believe everything you read” and “Google doesn’t have the answer to everything.” Lisa’s teaching requires students to be critical thinkers; to question and seek evidence; to validate and value different perspectives; and most importantly to seek information through different global perspectives. Lisa is also a fervent reader and enjoys connecting students with great books. She believes all students can be lifelong readers.
Lisa is a national board certified teacher. She earned the certification in 2003 and was the second teacher in the Auburn School District to become certified. Now Lisa is co-leading Auburn’s first national board cohort group. She is proud to be part of a district that supports the national board process. Lisa will also be participating on Washington State’s National Board Certified Teacher Policy Symposium in October. The group of 75 teachers will provide strategic, thoughtful input on how to implement the recently passed education reform bill 2261.
Lisa has 18 years of teaching experience, most of those as a third grade teacher and librarian at Washington Elementary School. Three years ago she transitioned into her teacher-librarian role at Auburn Riverside High School. Lisa has a bachelor’s in education from Washington State University; a master’s in educational technology from City University; and a learning services library media endorsement from the University of Washington.
