Bus Information

Transportation Eligibility

In the Auburn School District all students served by the girls on busschool district are eligible for transportation services provided they meet one or more of the following criteria:

  1. Students whole residence or day care is outside the approved walking area from the students destination school site.
  2. Students whose bus stop has district-identified hazards which make it "inappropriate" for school students to walk to and from school, or
  3. Student's disability as defined by RCW 28A.155.020 and who is either not ambulatory or capable of protecting his or her own welfare while traveling to or from schools where special services are provided.

Buses

The Auburn School District offers bus transportation to a number of elementary school students and follows the bus riding rules prepared by the State Superintendent of Public Instruction and the Washington State Patrol. These are located in the booklet, "Students' Rights and Responsibilities." Teachers review these rules with their students the first day of school.

Articles left on buses are usually kept by the bus drivers for a period of time and then turned into the lost and found department at the bus garage. The Transportation Department may be reached by calling (235) 931-4938.

Bus Transfers

To prevent overloading buses, district regulations state students ride only the buses assigned to them to and from school. Students may not transfer from bus to bus, nor may walkers ride home on buses with their friends.

Because of hazardous roadway conditions, bus riders are not allowed to walk to their homes. However, a bus rider may receive permission to walk to the home of a non-bus riding friend by bringing a written parental request to the office before departing school grounds. No bus rider may staff after school without a written not from a parent.

Unsupervised students on the school grounds, who have returned to school after school hours, will not be permitted to enter the building.

Early School Arrival and Departure Procedures

It is very important that students do not arrive at school prior to 10 minutes before the school starting time. Prior to that time, teachers are busy preparing lessons.

Occasionally, you may find it necessary to remove your child from school before the end of the regular school day. When a situation of this nature arises, we ask that you follow the procedures listed below:

  1. Send a note to the teacher, school office or attendance office so preparations can be made. If an emergency situation makes this impossible, a phone call to the secretary will suffice.
  2. You must come to the school office and sign your child out when ever you remove your child before the end of the regular school day. The secretary will call your child to the office when you arrive.
  3. Other siblings, relatives or friends who are not listed on your child's record, will NOT be permitted to remove your child unless the office is able to contact you to verify your permission.
