Classes

FCCLA is a class affiliated club. The courses explained below are the different classes that students can enroll in to become an FCCLA member. Most are opportunities for all grades to get involved in.


Interior Design

This project-based course is open to all grade students. It allows students to utilize creativity while developing knowledge and skills related to housing; interior designing and decorating. Projects include designing a kitchen and a starter home. Working with floor plans, colors, fabrics, wall and window coverings, furniture, and accessories are essential elements of this course. The final is a practical project.


Food Science and Nutrition

This lab science course focuses on the biological and chemical components of food and good nutrition. Students discover the role nutrients (proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, minerals and water) play in producing overall good health. Students investigate the nature of food through food science experiments. Students explore factors that influence metabolism and how fat diets influence health and nutrition.

Careers With Children

 

This course empowers students with knowledge, skills and practices required for careers in early childhood education and services. During the course students will focus on provision and management of childcare services, planning activities, and manage childcare facilities and programs that incorporate safe and healthy environments for children. CPR, TB testing, and police background checks are required in this course. Good attendance is mandatory. Certificates are issued upon completion of the program. Careers with children are only open to students in grades 10-12.

Independent Living

 

Students will acquire and apply knowledge and skills to successfully live independently. Students will perform a self-evaluation, explore communication and anger management techniques, acquire skills to effectively manage financial resources, perform skills needed for good nutritional choices, analyze the cost of raising a child, and create a career portfolio. Personal Choices

 

Students will address principles of self-concept related to family and human growth and development; develop interpersonal communication skills; demonstrate fundamental money management skills; evaluate guidelines for selecting and purchasing clothing; and plan, order, prepare and serve aesthetically pleasing meals that are nutritionally sound. Students will also explore various careers related to Family & Consumer Science. Electronic babies are a part of this course.

Fashion Apparel & Design

 

This course focuses on career opportunities in the field of fashion, merchandising, design and apparel, construction, and wholesale and retail marketing. Students will design and analyze current fashions, complete a designer project and maintain a portfolio of their work. Advanced students have the opportunity to complete a related internship in the community.

Nutrition and Wellness (Creative Foods)

 

This course analyzes the factors that influence nutrition and the preparation of foods that promote wellness. Students will learn nutrition for a healthy life, analyze diet plans, and prepare nutritious foods, and practice food safety and sanitation. In addition, they explore the scientific and technological advances in food production, preparation, composition and safety. Students participate in individual and group projects.

Careers In Education

 

The Careers in Education course includes an in-depth study of the principles and foundations of education and an opportunity to work with a mentor teacher. The course focuses on the theory and practice of teaching and learning. Good attendance and academic standing is required. The course may articulate with a four-year university upon meeting the academic requirements of this course.
