You can read music in two different ways. There is tablature and there is notation. Tablature is where it shows the six strings of the guitar where the bottom line is the lowest string. Then it just shows the number of the fret on which you are to put your finger and it tells you what string to put your finger on. This is a much easier way to learn your favorite song or something. Notation is the traditional way to read music for any instrument. This is where there is a scale that shows the notes, where the notes don’t necessarily coincide with where to put your finger. This is a bit trickier to learn, but once you start to do it, it’s easy to remember and it makes you more adaptable to different instruments if you every want to play something other than guitar. The notation system uses only five lines and notes can extend above and below the scale. Both systems are reliable and teach you to be able to read some form of music. Both are taught in the guitar class.
