Horticulture is the cultivation, processing, and marketing of fruits, nuts, vegetables, ornamental plants and flowers. As an industry it contributes over 25 billion dollars to the United States economy every year. The Auburn High School horticulture curriculum is guided by an advisory committee composed of 10 local community employers and employees representing the horticulture industry. The curriculum was designed to be Broad-based, exposing students to the many career opportunities in this exciting field. Students develop skills which they can use immediately on the job or for life-long enjoyment. Students wishing to gain further education and knowledge in the field of horticulture are encouraged to pursue post-secondary training

This is an advanced skills course in which the student will learn in a working enviroment that will include the greenhouse, floral and landscape labs. Greenhouse crops such as poinsettias, Easter lilies, fuchsais and bedding plants are grown and sold throughout the year. Landscape design, consturction, maintenance, and flower designing are included as coursework. Field trips and guest speakers are used to esplore career and college opportunities in this rewarding field. Individual student material costs may be applicable to this course.
