How do I make up work following an absence?
TEACHER
CONTACT INFORMATION E-Mail is the most efficient way to keep
lines of communication open. To contact any Auburn School District
employee
via E-mail, use the following structure:
First Initial/Last Name/@auburn.wednet.edu
Example:
Robert Swaim will be rswaim@auburn.wednet.edu
1. Students are responsible for checking with each
of their teachers following an absence.
2. Students have two (2)
days to make up work for each day of excused absence.
3. Make-up
work may not result in a credit for an unexcused absence. Students
or parents may call the attendance office to request homework
if a student is absent for three (3) days or more.
If a request
for
homework is made, it must be picked up before the student
returns to school. If it is not picked up before returning to school,
the student will only have 48 hours to complete the work for
full credit.
After the 48 hours deadline it is the teacher’s discretion
to what credit will be awarded for the work. Attendance office
will contact the staff if extenuating circumstances are impacting
the parents from picking up the homework.
Homework Requests (Absences of 3 days or more):
Requests
for homework for absences of three (3) consecutive days or more
may be done by calling the attendance office secretary or via
email. The process of obtaining homework assignments from teachers
takes
24 hours to complete. Before making a trip to the high school
you should call the attendance office secretary at 931-4886 to
make
sure that assignments have been turned in. For absences shorter
than three days, the student should contact a friend in the same
class to determine the assignment or e-mail the teacher directly
(see contact information below). Students have two (2) days to
complete make-up work for each day that they have missed. (Example:
If a student misses two (2) excused days of school, they will
have four (4) days to make-up the work upon their return.) Teachers
are generally available before and after school for one-half
hour
to assist students as necessary.
ATTENDANCE OFFICE RESPONSIBILITIES
The attendance office will issue an e-mail to appropriate
staff for parents’ request for homework for students that are absent
from school 3 or more days. The e-mail will state the date/time
when the parent will be picking up the assigned homework (at least
a 24-hour turn around). The teacher must reply to the e-mail either
with the homework attached or stating that work assigned during
the absence can be completed at school only. If a teacher is absent,
the attendance office will make that note on the parent’s
request. The attendance secretary will collect homework assignments,
place them in a folder and track teacher response. Teachers will
be notified when the homework as been picked up.
TEACHER RESPONSIBILITIES
Upon receiving a homework request, teachers are to
reply and/or send the homework to the attendance office by the
specified
date.
Student homework must be provided within a 24 hour time
frame. If homework or e-mail is not provided, the student will
be
allowed 48 hours to make up work for each day they were absent.
For example,
if a student is absent for three days and the teacher provides
no homework or email response, the student will have six
days to make up their work upon returning to school. If work
is provided,
the student must have it completed and turned in by designated
due date (must be specified within the e-mail or provided
work) or upon their return to school.
STUDENT/PARENT RESPONSIBILITIES
Parents are responsible forpicking up the homework
by the date
that was specified on the request. Failure to do so,
the attendance office returns the homework to the student upon
their
return to
school. Unless there are extenuating circumstances,
failure to pick up the homework that waswas sent to the attendance
office or a ZERO grade will be entered into the teacher’s
grade book.
