Field Trip

As you know, we are planning to take a field trip to Woodland Park Zoo on Wednesday, April 23rd. We will be learning about rain forests through a variety of activities in preparation for the trip. Please watch for additional information (including chaperone information) and permission slips to be coming home soon.

Reading

We recently started our 5th reading theme for the year; this theme is called Neighborhood News. As children read and listen to literature in this theme, they discover that members of a community are connected in a variety of ways. They see that each person in a community plays a part in making that community special. Be sure to ask your child about community helpers and other important people in our community.

Reading Logs

The weekly reading requirement is being bumped up to 20 minutes per night for a total of 80 minutes per week.  Look for the change in the next homework packet.

Fun Friday Changes

In preparation for third grade, students are working hard on developing responsibility for completing their class work in addition to homework. As a result, we, the teachers on the second grade team, have decided to increase our expectations for students to attend Fun Friday. In addition to the completed, signed homework packet, students must complete assigned classroom work (including work assigned during reading groups and our weekly rotation activities) in order to attend.
