ABOUT THE LIBRARY:
The library at Alpac houses thousands of books and resource materials, and is home to our school's wonderful computer lab. Classes make scheduled visits to the library once a week. Events such as Student-of-the Month Lunches, P.T.A. Meetings, and School Book Fairs take place in the library.
Students' Library Visits:
Students in all grades attend library classes weekly (see the schedule). During their library time, students learn about library science, books, and technology. Library classes typically begin with a brief story time, after which students complete an activity at their seats or in the computer lab. Check-out time is provided during every visit.
Check-out Procedures:
Students check out books during their library class time and may "keep" checked-out materials for a period of one week. Kindergartners check out one book per week; 1st and 2nd graders check out two books per week; and 3rd-5th graders check out three books per week
Library books are always due on one's library day (see schedule). Students must have all of their checked-out materials returned in order to be "cleared" to check-out on library day. We encourage students to take home their library books and share them with their families! We hope that parents will assist their children in developing "interest inventories," so that student come to the library prepared to search for books about topics of interest to them.
Overdue Books:
If a student's books are overdue, he/she will receive a reminder notice to take home, stating that the books need to be returned as soon as possible. There is no fine for overdue books; however, students need to return any overdue materials prior to being allowed to check-out again.
Book Fines:
Book fines are issued in cases where one's library book is lost or damaged.
