CHOIR-VOCAL JAZZ ENSEMBLE(“Jazz Choir”-MUS230)
OPEN TO: 9,10,11,12   Full Year course  AUDITION ONLY
PREREQUISITE: Audition, interest in learning and performing jazz music.
Students will in daily rehearsal, learn and refine their understanding of music fundamentals, vocal production, jazz techniques and harmony through the study and performance of a variety of jazz literature. They will expand their understanding and response to the director’s verbal guidance and conducting gestures. The students will learn fundamentals of solo and group performance, sophisticated harmonies, theory and vocal techniques in a pop/jazz idiom. They must develop a professional attitude towards performing. Attendance of daily rehearsal, written and vocal performance tests and participation in concerts and contests will affect assigned grade. Fundraising opportunities will be offered to help students pay for concert attire and travel. Auditions will be held in early spring for the following year’s ensemble.
