Bond Alternatives
In Auburn, the official King County election results reflect that the Auburn School District high school bond voted on by local voters in the March 12 election has narrowly failed passage. The percentage of yes votes is 59.01 which is 108 votes short of the 60 percent supermajority required in the state of Washington. In response to the failure of the bond proposition, the Auburn School Board of Directors decided at the March 25 school board meeting to invite citizens to participate on two new ad hoc committees which will make recommendations on the high school growth issue. One committee will review the conclusions and recommendations of the 1985 and 1995 ad hoc committees relating to high school enrollment growth and will review possible financing plans for new facilities. The other committee will develop recommendations for accommodating high school growth for the next ten years if the new high school is not built.
Any community members that are interested in serving on these committees are encouraged to contact Ruth Johns, administrative assistant to the superintendent, at (253) 931-4914.
