ARHS Students Competed in Annual
Journalism Education Association/National School Paper Association Convention
Auburn Riverside High School students competed in the annual Journalism Education Association/National School Paper Association (JEA/NSPA) convention which was held in Portland, Oregon on April 10-13. The following students earned awards in individual competitions:
Tony Helmbolt received an honorable mention for his work in copyediting, caption and headline writing. He took an Associated Press (AP) style test, wrote captions for several pictures, and wrote headlines for several stories.
Matt Schreiner, third year newspaper staff member and next year’s editor-in-chief, won an honorable mention for sports writing. He wrote a story on the Portland Trailblazers' community service/outreach programs.
Stephanie Mathieu, third year newspaper staff member and co-editor-in-chief, won an excellent for a feature story on volcanoes.
Karalee Sargent, fourth year newspaper staff member and co-editor-in-chief, won an excellent for her newsmagazine design.
