Team of Ilalko Fourth Graders Wins
King County Library Systems "Global Reading Challenge"

On Monday, April 14, a team of fourth graders from Ilalko Elementary School won the King County Library Systems Global Reading Challenge held in Issaquah.  School librarian, Stephanie Wright, was responsible for organizing the initial Ilalko reading event and was the coach for this team once they won the school level competition. 

This reading challenge event encourages reading in the elementary grades.  In the late 1930’s, its predecessor, the Battle of the Books, was a weekly radio show that used a quiz bowl format to test children’s knowledge of good literature.  Questions about characters, plots, and settings were answered by teams representing several elementary schools.
