NEWS RELEASE
Auburn School District Students Competed
Very Well at JEA Conference

Auburn School District students competed very well at the national Journalism Education Association (JEA) conference held in Seattle on April 7-10. More than 4,400 students from around the country attended the conference, and more than 1,800 competed in the write-off contests. Only one-third of the students were recognized for excellence.

The Auburn High School Troy In’Voice students won seventh place in the Best of Show competition for small newspapers with their fifth issue, which included a center spread on the symptoms and treatment of teen depression. The editor-in-chief, Mike Baldwin, worked especially hard on this issue. In addition, Mellinda Dollinger and Savannah Pleake were recognized for excellence in News Writing and Review Writing, respectively.

Several students from Auburn Riverside High School’s In Flight staff did very well. Janai Speer (editor-in-chief) received an honorable mention for her feature writing and Kayla Fitzsimmons received an honorable mention for her editorial writing.
