NEWS RELEASE
Three Auburn School District Fifth Graders
Honored as Safety Patrol Hall of Famers at Mariners Game

At the April 22 Seattle Mariners versus Cleveland Indians baseball game at Safeco Field, the ten Washington’s Safety Patrol Hall of Fame student recipients and their families were honored. After they honored Washington Elementary School fifth grade student, Jimmy Smith, at the award ceremony, the announcer made a statement.

“I’m not sure if you all noticed this but Jimmy is our third award winner from Auburn. Now all of you have done an amazing job and have been selected as winners, but when we choose these Hall of Famers, the judges do not get the names, district or any other information that would lead to them knowing who they are judging, just the nominations and the questions the students answer. When we got the results back and saw that we had three winners from the Auburn School District we knew that Auburn must be doing something extra special down there. Maybe we could all learn something from them.”

The two other Auburn School District hall of fame students honored out of the ten recipients were Dillon Carson, a Dick Scobee Elementary School fifth grader, and Ryan Montgomery, a Pioneer Elementary School fifth grader. These three Auburn School District recipients, as well as seven other students, were selected from hundreds of entries across the state to be inducted into the AAA Safety Patrol Hall of Fame. John Markwell, Washington Elementary School, nominated Jimmy Smith; Rachelle Howard, Dick Scobee Elementary School, nominated Dillon Carson, and Michelle Hupperten, Pioneer Elementary School nominated Ryan Montgomery.
