Auburn School District's Board of Directors
Honors Junior Dennis Sorta
The Auburn School District Board of Directors will recognize Dennis Sorta, a junior at Auburn Mountainview High School, for being an outstanding student on Monday, April 23, at 7 p.m. in the board room at the James P. Fugate Administration Building.
Dennis Sorta, a junior at Auburn Mountainview High School, is known around the schoolhouse as a poised leader. He excels in challenging courses, like Mrs. Rumbaugh’s AP Biology class. “Dennis excels academically in AP Biology and has a natural ability in science,” remarks Mrs. Rumbaugh. Dennis demonstrates his capability through detailed class work, laboratories and assessments. Dennis is a leader in class, where he mentors other students in science laboratories as they have questions or need clarification.
Dennis is respected among his peers and is a role model. He is responsible, caring and stretches himself to understand difficult content in addition to preparing himself for assessments and exams. Dennis works exceptionally well both in groups and independently, and he can be counted on to complete any task at 100 percent. Dennis often scores a perfect or near perfect score on many AP Biology assignments. He believes that his teachers have made all the difference. “I think my teachers are doing a great job,” says Dennis.
Dennis is also a leader on the basketball court. Dennis plays varsity basketball and exhibits outstanding sportsmanship, clear-headedness and self-control. He remembers one time during practice when some of his teammates began arguing. “I calmed them down and told them to get focused for our next game,” says Dennis.
Off the basketball court, Dennis serves his community and cares about the youth of Auburn in and out of the schoolhouse. Through his service learning class, Dennis has volunteered at Auburn Parks and Recreation’s daycare program and at Lea Hill Elementary School.
Currently Dennis favors his math and science courses and is interested in pursuing a career in either the medical or dentistry field. According to Dennis, “My mom encourages me to pursue these professions. Plus, I like to work with people and I like learning.” The University of Washington is one of his top choices for college. He is also looking to apply to Gonzaga and a number of out-of-state schools.
