KINDERGARTEN

ESSENTIAL LEARNINGS: BENCHMARKS: INTEGRATED CURRICULUM:
Students will develop an understanding of  award winning literature and different genres that connect to grade level curriculum and reading level.  This may include, but is not limited to:

Students identify various genres.

  1. Work with classroom teachers to connect curriculum to library resources.
  2. Teachers participate in the selection of library materials and create personalized categories.

Fantasy
Animals
Adventure
Myth
Fables
Other Lands & People
Historical Fiction
Biography
Poetry
Science Fiction
Realistic Fiction
Humor

FIRST GRADE

ESSENTIAL LEARNINGS: BENCHMARKS: INTEGRATED CURRICULUM:

SECOND GRADE

Examples:  Newbery, Caldecott, Coretta Scott King, Washington Children's Choice Picture Books, etc...

Students:
  1. identify various genres.
  2. recognize award winning literature.
Work with classroom teachers to connect curriculum to library resources.

Suggested Activities:

  1. Teachers participate in the selection of library materials.
  2. Teachers and librarians create lists of read-aloud books to tie the different genres in with curriculum.
  3. Participate in Washington Children's Choice Picture Book Awards selection process.
  4. Explore character, plot, and point of view.

FOURTH GRADE

ESSENTIAL LEARNINGS: BENCHMARKS: INTEGRATED CURRICULUM:
