  • About Books--a great set of links and lists, of best books, reviews, writers' and readers' resources, courtesy of readers' services, Allen County Public Library, Indiana.
  • African-American Literature Book Club--with book profiles and reviews (including children's books), author profiles, a discussion forum, and an opportunity to buy the books online.
  • Bamboo Grove Publishers--find books that have gone out of print and have now been found worthy of being republished. It has different literary sections, reviews and an online literary magazine.
  • Book Arts Resources--illustration, bookbinding, typography and calligraphy, and more.
  • BookBrowser--has all kinds of useful book info--reading lists, by genre, author, series, sequels, or Oprah; an "If You Like This, You Should Like These" file, and a set of about 1500 book reviews.
  • BookBytes--Marylaine Block's columns about books, plus her annotated bibliographies of books too good to put down (just right for the reluctant reader) and her advice on how to find out of print books.

  • Book Reviews Galore--fiction, nonfiction (all topics), humor, you name it, Danny's read books and has some recommendations.
  • Books That Change Lives--great achievers of the 20th century tell you about the books that mattered to them.
  • ChapterOne: the first chapters of over 130 current fiction and non-fiction titles, updated weekly. Don't just take a reviewer's word for it--try it out.
  • Fiction Digest: biweekly short summaries of about 100 new novels, general fiction, romances, mysteries, science fiction, and poetry.

  • How To Find Out of Print Books--Marylaine Block's suggested strategies for any determined bookbuyer. You're welcome to copy this and hand it out to patrons.
  • Independent Reader--a site sponsored by independent booksellers, with recommendations for good reading in all genres.
  • Internet Book Information Center: a little of everything--reviews, a collaborative commonplace book, thorough collection of books/journals links.
  • Is It a Book?--this fascinating site deals with the psychology and philosophy of text, whether the linear text of books or the nonlinear hypertext of electronic resources, and offers some speculations on the future of the book.
  • Midwest Book Review: Links to all kinds of book-related sites, including book review sources.
  • Nancy's Really Good Reads--nice chatty reviews of interesting new fiction and nonfiction, from our head of Acquisitions.

  • New York Review of Books--eventually this site will contain the complete archive, and will cost money. But for right now you can see this year's back issues for free.
  • New York Times Book Reviews-text of NYTBR for all of 1998, plus search all book reviews since 1980; free with registration.

  • Read Across America--NEA's campaign to motivate children to read. On Dr. Seuss' birthday, they want every child in America to be in the company of a book. Take part and spread the word.
  • Readers' Robot--a personalized book recommendation system, that does for books what Firefly does for music. Create your personal book profile by filling in surveys in each subject area, and find out what other readers say you'll enjoy. System still needs some work, and a wider range of choices in its initial survey, but this is a promising source.
