Four Auburn Elementary Schools Make
Canned Food Drive a Success
The Auburn Optimist Club recently sponsored a canned food drive competition to replenish the food which was donated during the Thanksgiving holiday by the Auburn Food Bank. There were four elementary schools that participated in the competition: Dick Scobee Elementary, Chinook Elementary; Lake View Elementary; and Terminal Park Elementary. Over 5,600 cans of food were collected by the elementary schools for the food bank to give to local families in need.
The two schools that donated the most food, Dick Scobee and Chinook, received plaques. Lake View and Terminal Park received framed certificates. Every participating classroom from every school received a Certificate of Participation. Each of the following classrooms received an ice cream party and a framed Certificate of Participation: Dick Scobee Elementary - Mr. Pfab's fifth grade; Chinook Elementary - Miss Tedman's fourth grade; Lake View Elementary - Mr. Thomas' third grade; and Terminal Park elementary - Mrs. Murphy's fourth grade.
This is the first time the canned food drive competition was sponsored by the Auburn Optimist Club. The club also sponsors the School Safety Patrol, Bicycle Rodeo, Always Buckle Children, Soccer Skills Contest, Santa House and Parade, WAHS Student-of-the-Month, Head Start Book Program, various YMCA activities, T-Ball teams, and other activities.
