Auburn Schools Compete to Donate Food for Local Families

From January 9 to 20, 2006, all twenty schools in Auburn School District will participate for the second year in a food drive competition which will benefit local families served by the Auburn Food Bank.

In the past, Auburn schools ran food drives before the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Because the Auburn Food Bank had continually experienced a fall-off in food donations after the holidays that greatly impacted local families, last year the schools began an after-holidays food drive with the hope of providing food through the lean times of winter.

The Auburn Food Bank was awed by the magnitude of the response it received from the Auburn School District students and staff when this event was inaugurated last school year. Totally, 45,395 pounds of food were gathered for local families during the January 2005 food drive.

Local restaurants will be sponsors for a celebratory meal for the winning class in each of the schools participating in the January 2006 Food Drive Competition.
