Mt. Baker Middle School Assistant Principal Named
South King County Region Assistant Principal of the Year
Isaiah Johnson, assistant principal at Mt. Baker Middle School in the Auburn School District, has been named the South King County Region Assistant Principal of the Year for 2006-07.
Mr. Johnson has been the assistant principal at Mt. Baker Middle School since the fall of 2004. Prior to coming to Mt. Baker, he spent three years as an assistant principal at the middle school level in the Seattle School District.
Mr. Johnson is a favorite among staff and students at Mt. Baker. Both students and staff hold him in high regard and recognize his passion for helping students succeed. Peers describe Mr. Johnson as a passionate leader focused on what is always best for children.
Mr. Johnson has taken it upon himself to create a number of programs that reach out to students at Mt. Baker, such as the school’s first annual Multicultural Fair, a mentor program for young male students that need academic and behavior support, and a new after-school science program, funded by The Boeing Company.
In the area of professional preparation, Mr. Johnson has served on the Auburn School District’s Ad-Hoc Committee that reviewed the roles of the community in schools, and he has served on the District’s Student Learning Plan (SLP) Advisory. He currently serves as the middle school representative on the Auburn School District’s Curriculum and Instruction Committee as well as the Middle School Subcommittee for Curriculum and Instruction. Mr. Johnson has used his role as an instructional leader to present a number of in-service workshops to Mt. Baker staff on topics ranging from cultural competence to a Web-based program that allows teachers to view assessment data.
Mr. Johnson was honored at a school-wide assembly on Tuesday, December 19.
