NEWS RELEASE
Auburn High School Student-Trainers Provide Aid to Injured Man

On December 14, the Auburn High School boys’ basketball team, coaches and student-trainers were returning home from their win against White River High School when their bus came up on an accident involving a moving vehicle and a pedestrian on Highway 410 in Bonney Lake.

The incident between the vehicle and pedestrian occurred just before the bus drove up on the scene. While there were a few people standing around and a couple talking to 911 operators, student trainers Cassie Vargas and Brianna Larson, along with Coach Abe VanDerPuy and Coach Ryan Hansen, immediately went to the aid of the man who had been hit.

Cassie and Brianna honed in on the situation and did an exceptional job of evaluating the scene and providing the appropriate medical attention. They attended to a serious gash in the victim’s head and kept the victim on the ground and calm. Cassie and Brianna told Coaches VanDerPuy and Hansen exactly what to do to help with the situation. It was clear that the man had broken his leg in the accident, so when he tried to get up a couple times, Cassie and Brianna continued to reassure him and control the bleeding from the wound on his head until medics arrived and took over.

For more information contact Ryan Hansen, boys’ basketball coach, at 253-931-4719, ext. 1999.
