ESSENTIAL ACADEMIC LEARNING REQUIREMENTS |
ESSENTIAL ACADEMIC LEARNING REQUIREMENTS:
In Washington state, four clear learning goals guide education. These goals call for students to know and be able to:
| GOAL 1 | GOAL 2 | GOAL 3 | GOAL 4 |
| Read with comprehension, write with skill, and communicate effectively and responsibly in a variety of ways and settings. | Know and apply the core concepts and principles of mathematics; social, physical, and life sciences; civics and history; geography; arts; and health and fitness. | Think analytically, logically, and creatively, and to integrate experience and knowledge to form reasoned judgments and solve problems. | Understand the importance of work and how performance, effort, and decisions directly affect career and educational opportunities. |
In order to help students achieve the above goals, the Auburn School District has
worked in aligning its curriculum with the goals by creating grade level benchmarks.

KINDERGARTEN THROUGH FIFTH GRADE ESSENTIAL ACADEMIC LEARNING REQUIREMENTS (EALRs):
Parents are the child's first and most important teacher. The Auburn School
District has compiled the following information to help parents know what their child will
have learned by the end of the school year for Kindergarten through Fifth Grade. The
learning goals referred to are the "Essential Academic Learning Requirements."
We hope that the following information will help you support your child's
development through activities at home which practice these learnings. Children
learn best by example, and your continued interest in education will encourage your
child's love of learning. We hope you enjoy learning together! To view the
