NEWS RELEASE
Board of Directors to Recognize
Jan Millgard, Lake View Elementary School Librarian

On Monday, February 24, the Auburn School Board of Directors will recognize Lake View Elementary School librarian, Jan Millgard.  "Jan Millgard is a treasured colleague and a valued friend to each staff member at Lake View.  She is always the first to lend a hand or a listening ear when one is needed.  As our librarian, she shares her love of books with every child who enters the library, awakening in all of them the joy found in reading," said Lake View Elementary School principal, Debbie Helm.  For several years, Ms. Millgard has been involved at the state and local level with Delta Kappa Gamma Society International which promotes key woman educators.  Ms. Millgard graduated in 1976 from Eastern Washington University in music education.  From 1976 – 1980, she taught second grade in Newport, Washington.  After she moved to Spokane in 1980, she was hired by Central Valley School

District as an elementary music specialist.  In a move across the state in 1985, Ms. Millgard was hired by Auburn School District as an elementary music specialist.  In 1989, she taught second grade at Gildo Rey Elementary.  In 1994, she taught music at Lake View Elementary and the subsequent year took on the responsibility of school librarian. "The library is the greatest place to be! It is the integration of all subjects -reading, mathematics, science, the Fine Arts, and technology.  The joy of my job is meeting Lake View students in kindergarten and being a part of their journey of becoming the best life-long learners they can be,” said Ms. Millgard.

For more information, contact Lake View Elementary School principal, Debbie Helm, at (253) 931-4830.
