Olympic Middle School Honors
Black History Month
Olympic Middle School will be honoring Black History Month by having three grade level assemblies on Friday, February 13. Mr. Ted Hutchinson will be performing Stories to Reconcile By, a program that depicts a short journey in African American history told with folk tales and songs sung acappella by Mr. Hutchinson. The presentation takes the audience on a trip from the villages on the west coast of Africa to holding dungeons and slave ships, then to the plantations of the south. Students will hear of travels through the jungle, hear African folk tales and drums, experience the tragic Middle Passage and live on and escape from, the plantations of the south. The assemblies will be held at these times in the gym: 8 a.m.-9 a.m. (8th grade); 9:30a.m.-10:30a.m. (6th grade); 1 p.m.-2 p.m. (7th grade). This program is sponsored by the King County Library system, the Muckleshoot tribe, and Olympic Middle School ASB.
