The Auburn School District has selected Leimomi “Momi” Bowles as a physical education and health teacher and the head volleyball coach for Auburn Mountainview High School.
In 1992, Ms. Bowles earned a bachelor of education at Gonzaga University and a master of education from Lesley University in 1999. She played NCAA Division I volleyball at Gonzaga from 1988 until 1991, earning Most Inspirational player for all four years. She was also team captain as a senior in 1991 and was a two-time West Coast Conference All Conference honors selection. Ms. Bowles made one National Invitational Tournament appearance and one NCAA Volleyball Championship appearance.
In 1992, Ms. Bowles started her coaching career as head volleyball coach at Wellpinit High School (Spokane Indian Reservation). The following year she returned to Gonzaga University as an assistant coach for two years. Her next coaching assignment was at North Central High School (NCHS) in Spokane from 1995-1997. NCHS won the AAA State Volleyball Championship in 1995. In 1998, Ms. Bowles became the head volleyball coach at University High School. She was asked to return to NCHS in 1999 where she stayed for three years as head coach. In 2002, she moved to Kent Meridian High School.
Ms. Bowles’ desire to start a new program and open a new school attracted her to Auburn Mountainview High School. Her commitment to students in health and physical education as well as in extracurricular sports has been her trademark. Ms. Bowles has taken the lead often in developing “Fitness Programs” in her school communities. When she finds the time, she continues to serve as Camp Director for Gonzaga University Volleyball Camp as she has done since 1994.
