2006 Food Drive Competition Results

On Friday, February 3, Jack Laverty, the Auburn Food Bank executive director, announced the results of the 2006 food drive competition between schools in Auburn School District. From January 9 to 20, all 20 schools in Auburn School District had participated for the second year in a food drive competition benefiting local families.

The winning schools that donated the most food per student were:

• High school level: Auburn Mountainview High School with 5.95 lbs. per student
• Middle school level: Cascade Middle School with 8.44 lbs. per student!
• Elementary school level: Hazelwood Elementary School with 14.56 lbs. per student!

The grand totals of food donated for the two years of the competition were:

• 2006: 63,821 lbs + $4,804.49 = 68,625.49 pounds
• 2005: 45,395 lbs + $816.65 = 46,211.85 pounds

This year’s total donation from the schools was an increase of 22,413.64 pounds of food.

Mr. Laverty praised all the participating students and schools “for the ones who truly win are the families and individuals who come into the food bank, ask for help, and receive it. The only reason they get that help is because of the generosity of this community and, specifically, this food drive this time of the year from your students.”
