Mrs. Leyda

book, Grandfather's Journey.
I have been teaching at Alpac for the past fourteen years. I taught fourth grade for four years before becoming a librarian in
1992.
The best part of my job is sharing the many wonderful
books we have with my students and watching their faces light up with pure
excitement. I also enjoy helping students complete internet research
projects in our new computer lab. Students research topics that range from
animals, to history to the study of different authors and illustrators.
Some of my favorite books are:
All The Places to Love
by Patricia Maclachlan
Don't Laugh Joe
by Keiko Kasza
James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl
Lily's Purple Plastic Purse by Kevin Henkes
Six Dinner Sid
by Inga Moore
Poetry for Young People by Walt Whitman, edited by Jonathan
Levin

book, The Frog Prince, Continued.
The 2004-2005 school year is my thirteenth year at Alpac.
After teaching first grade for one year and second grade for two years, I made
the switch to
part-time librarian in 1995.
I enjoy reading to children and teaching them to locate
books using our library's computerized search system. It's fun to
introduce children to wonderful literature and resource books, and to see
students encouraged to read independently.
Teaching students in our library's computer lab is
thrilling! I especially enjoy taking students on "tours" of
authors' and illustrators' web sites.
Some of my favorite books are:
Santa's Book of Names
by David McPhail
Leo the Late Bloomer
by Robert Kraus
Miss Nelson is Missing
by Harry Allard
The Dumb Bunnies
by Dav Pilkey
Cinder Edna
by Ellen Jackson
The Trouble with Trolls
by Jan Brett
