If You Take A Mouse To School

What's Happening By Grade Level:

Kindergarten:  During library time, the kindergartners get the opportunity to hear wonderful books during our story time.  The students also complete in-class assignments that complement the stories read.

Grade 1:  The first graders are excited to come to the library to listen to award-winning literature and complete projects that enhance these titles.  The students are also introduced to the role of an author, illustrator and publisher and learn about the parts of a book.

Grade 2:  Grade two students are exposed to excellent literature and specific genres that connect the second grade curriculum.  Some genres focused on include: folk/fairy tales, fables, animals, poetry, fantasy and adventure.  Students also complete a weekly assignment related to the book that's read during story time.

Grade 3:  Grade three students are learning many new things about how a library is organized.  They are identifying call numbers from the search station as well as accessing fiction and non-fiction titles using the call numbers.

Grade 4:  Fourth graders are identifying appropriate search strategies using title, author, subject and series.  In addition, students are accessing information from specific, educationally-based internet sites to learn more about authors, illustrators, and the Dewey Decimal System.

Grade 5:  Grade five students are spending much time in the computer lab accessing information for various library projects.  They are also learning how to use the many reference materials including the atlas, dictionary, encyclopedia and almanac to better locate specific information.
