As parents, you are an essential part of the educational process. Research has proven that the best schools, the best teachers, the best principals are not as important to a child’s achievement in school as a parent. You are the single most important key to your child’s success. Therefore, to be effective in the classroom it will be important for us to have your support and maintain open communication throughout the year. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call or make an appointment for a group conference.

We believe that all students have the ability to behave appropriately in our classrooms and should be held accountable for their actions. In order to guarantee your child and the other students the excellent learning environment they deserve, this management plan of expectations and consequences have been established.

In addition to following the school rules as outlined in the Cascade handbook, all team members need to meet the following classroom expectations:

1.       Be on time and be prepared to learn.

2.       Do nothing that interferes with your own or someone else’s learning.

3.       Show respect for yourself, for others, and for property.

We have discussed these expectations and the reasons behind them in class. Please take time to discuss them further at home. Your child should be able to explain them to you.

We have also discussed consequences for misbehavior. Any student who chooses to behave inappropriately will be directed to leave class and report to a time out room for processing. The student will be allowed to return to class only when appropriate classroom behavior is exhibited and stated in writing. Two time outs in one day and/or 3-4 time outs in one month will result in a lunch table assignment. Students receiving five or more time outs in the month will be assigned lunch detention.  Other consequences are after school detention and Friday Night School.  Parents will be informed of discipline issues when a child reaches four think times in a month.  Extreme misbehavior, such as swearing, vandalism, stealing, or violation of the Hands Off  Policy will result in further disciplinary action.

Please take a moment to review this information with your child.

Sincerely,

Your sixth grade teachers
