Online reference center

Today you will start to explore the online World Book which is available through the Library web page.

You will answer all questions directly on the computer (let's save a tree!) and then save the document for later use in your file.

To use this document as a template:
Click on the Microsoft Word Icon that appears on the Toolbar. Answer each question in the space provided.

1. Open a new Internet Explorer Window
Follow the links to the library web page and click on the World Book link.

2. Answer the following Questions!

3. Fun Facts
Click on the link and write down the answer to the question that appears on the Home page. (Notice this Fun Fact question will change everytime you return to this page, you only need to write down the first answer!)

4. Current Events
Return to the Home page and follow the Current Events link.
Choose one article from the list and read the first paragraph

Write down one important fact from the paragraph you read.

5. Surf The Ages
Return to the Home page and follow the Surf The Ages link.
Click on the "Ancient Times" link
Click on the "sumer-Egypt" link
Now follow the link called "Akhenaten: The Rising of the Sun"
click on the "Royal Family" link and answer the following question

What does Queen Nefertiti's name mean?

6. Searching the World Book Online Encyclopedia
Return to the Home page and click on the "Search" Tab
Enter the key word "Egypt" and answer the following questions.

How many encyclopedia articles are available about Egypt?
How many pictures are available?
How many Historical Maps are available?
How many "Back in Time" Articles?
How many Web sites?

Now click on the "Table" link and answer the following question. (You will need to figure out which link will give you the correct table!)

Which month is it most likely to snow in the city of Aswan?

Now spend the rest of the time exploring all the options on the World Book site. You will be using this site extensively throughout the rest of the year and will want to be familiar with all of its capabilities.

7. To Save your Document:

click File/Save As/navigate to the student drive and your folder
