Holiday Memoir
By Kayla Arellano
I felt like I was in heaven when my aunt and uncle came over for Christmas. I was sitting by my window awaiting their arrival. I waited for what seemed like days before Aunt Amanda and Uncle Jose emerged into our house and away from the cold through the door I had just opened. It was like magic. I couldn’t believe that they made it through the snowy town of Yakima, over the snowy white passes all the way from Tricities where they live. What made this day so special was that my family was there the day before Christmas Eve. And the day had started with me sitting by my window.

Ah, Christmas, the first thing people think of when it comes to presents. But you know, that’s not really the most important thing. It’s really about being with the one you love, and the ones who love you back. Well, I woke up and got my parents up. Then I waited out on the couch in the living room so I could wait for my parents. I opened my presents one by one until I was out. Then I gave the presents for my parents to them, then I got ready to go to my grandma’s house for Christmas dinner. Finally we came home and went to bed. That day was one of the best days ever. You can still love getting the presents, but love the ones who gave you them more.
VACATION DAYS
By Brennan Wallin
“Yes! My first day of Christmas vacation!” I yelled as I jumped out of bed. At 10:30 in the morning I raced to my friend’s house, which just so happens to be Rachel R.’s house. I was hoping to play with her brother. When I got there, there was not one annoying girl there already, but two! Katie T. had spent the night there. At times, though, Katie and Rachel aren’t so bad. I couldn’t play because Blaine, Rachel’s brother, had to go to a Boy Scout meeting, so I went to my other friend’s house. We played a game called “Cat in the Hat,” another which was called “Kids Next Door,” “Operation V.I.D.O.E.G.A.M.E.,” which to me was particularly boring. I went home for lunch and then read and read and read!

“Kevin! Get up! It’s time to get ready!” yelled my mom. Today we are going snowboarding and I had to get up at 6:30. When we were driving to Crystal there was a ton of traffic, which meant a bunch of big lines. The snow up there was pretty good. It was a bit crunchy but other than that it was good. We found some fun new places to cut through the trees. I was going through the trees and there was a bump. I went off it a bit fast, so right when I landed I hit a tree. I sat there dazed a bit and my wrist hurt a bit, but I kept going. A lot happened but it would take 20 years to explain. On the way home everyone was wiped out. We got home, unpacked and laid on the couch the rest of the day. That’s how tired we were!

‘Tis the day before Christmas,
Everyone is moving quickly to get everything done,
Even Toby, the dog, felt the excitement in the air.
Did he hope Santa would leave him a toy or two?
Cookies, candy and foods were made, more than we can eat in a day,
The tree was so lovely and brought calm to the day,
All shining with dozens of clear lights as if to lead the way.
My duty today was to stay out of the way and pick up my room in case Santa brought me “stuff” to stow away!
My “insides” were itchy and restless so I stole one short snoop at the presents under the tree
Then dashed to the bonus room to hope and pray.
Off to church at 10 a.m. and back again for Midnight Mass at 10 p.m.
The peaceful, serene, and glowing ambiance of the sanctuary fill me with warmth, happiness, and love.
Mom, Dad, Andrew, Abby, Grandma, Grandpa Waldo and I-
Life was so perfect for moment of two as we celebrate this Christmas Eve.
