Grading:

Grading criteria in PE is not the same as the classroom setting where assignments and test scores are totaled. The quality of a students’ active participation and effort, citizenship, cooperation with others, and skill improvement are basic in assigning a letter grade.

Further clarification for each grade is described below:

‘A’

An ‘A’ student consistently shows great effort, sportsmanship, attitude towards others and listens well each day. Beyond personal achievement, the student shows care and consideration for classmates and does his/her best to help others succeed.

‘B’

A ‘B’ student generally gives a good effort, is considerate of others, shows responsibility for their behavior and displays good sportsmanship.

‘C’

A ‘C’ student often fails to stay involved in the class activity, distracts others and is working well below his/her ability level. They are inconsistent in their efforts and may show poor sportsmanship or treat others with disrespect.

‘D’

A ‘D’ student is unmotivated and/or makes minimal effort. This student does not try to do his/her best, be cooperative or listen carefully. HE/she may show poor attitude toward others and the activity and acts in an irresponsible and disrespectful manner.

‘F’

Failures usually are a result of chronic absenteeism or performing at the ‘D’ level coupled with absences and non-suits for activity.

PE General Info

1. Students are expected to be dressed for activity in appropriate clothes. The adopted school PE uniform is purple shorts w/light gray t-shirt. We highly recommend purchasing the inexpensive uniform available at school. The cost for BOTH the shorts & shirt is $14. The shorts are nylon mesh; the shirt is a cotton/poly blend. Neither should shrink. They both have the Cascade PE logo. No markings other than the official school logo and name are allowed. All uniforms shall have the students’ name on the front (last name, first initial). Sweats/Warm-ups are allowed and encouraged during cold weather and may be worn over the regular uniform. They need not have names on them.  Athletic shoes are to be laced and tied snugly for activity. Sagging pants/shorts are not allowed.

2. Students will be issued their own combination lock. They are responsible for the care of that lock. Loss of/or damage to the lock will result in a replacement fee of $5.00.

3. Students are expected to be on time and dressed properly for class each day. Appropriate time will be allotted for changing to/from PE clothes and regular school clothes.

4. If a student cannot participate due to illness or injury they are to bring a note from parent/guardian to be excused. If a student is unable to participate for more than three consecutive school days, they will need to bring a doctor’s note. If a student fails to suit up for class and has no written excuse they will receive a non-participation mark and be processed from class or be assigned an alternate activity. Three non-participation marks in one quarter will lower a student’s grade.

5. The objectives of P.E. are to learn/improve skills, be a good sport, develop confidence and most of all have fun. We will encourage all students to do their best and treat others with respect.
