MRS. BRYANT

INTRODUCTION TO WORLD LANGUAGE

During this semester-long course you will study four world languages:

German, French, Spanish, and Japanese.  These 4, plus American Sign

Language, are offered at the high school.

SUPPLIES NEEDED:

TWO pens and/or pencils, paper, binder, and planner.

Textbooks & flashcards in a protective cover.  (I will supply these.)

Markers or colored pencils will be nice to have, but are not required.

CLASS EXPECTATIONS:

Be quietly working in your assigned seat when class starts..

Do not do anything that will make it difficult for the teacher to teach, or

for students to learn.

Show respect for every member of the class, and for their property.

No food, drinks, or gum in class.

GRADES:

Your grade will be based on points from assignments, class participation,

bi-weekly quizzes, and bringing supplies.  Extra credit (up to 10% of grade) is

also available by completing any unassigned       chapter sections, or by doing a

special assignment related to Japan.  Report card grades will be

            issued on the following basis:

            A:  90-100%          B:  80-89%          C:  70-79%       D:  60-69%            F:  0-59%

Students will get 2 late-assignment passes per quarter.  Late assignments

turned in without a pass attached can receive only 75% of the credit they would have received if on time.   No late assignments or extra credit are accepted during the last week of a quarter

MAKE-UP WORK:

Very little homework will be assigned, but you are responsible to make up

ALL classwork you miss.  Check THE DAY YOU RETURN to see what you

need to do.  Any worksheets will be placed in the  "White Box."  It is your

responsibility to look in the box and pick up this work.  Make-up assignments

must be done on YOUR time.  I will be happy to schedule time to help you

before or after school (or at lunch if necessary).  You will have 3 days after your

return from an absence to complete missed

assignments.  After that, they become late work.  If you have a long-term

illness, please see me for special make-up arrangements.  Make-up papers, as well

as other assignments, go in your period’s slot in the        “stack” on the file cabinet.

TEXTBOOKS:

Textbooks will be checked out to you.  They are to be kept, and brought to

class every day in the    protective cover provided.  YOU MAY NOT WRITE IN

THE TEXT OR WORKBOOK.  USE NOTEBOOK PAPER FOR  ALL

ASSIGNMENTS FROM BOOKS!  Be very careful with texts to avoid

charges for loss or damage.  (Be sure to save all Japanese handouts.  There

is no text for this unit, so you will need your handouts to study for tests.)

5 points extra credit if you and your parent read, sign and return this

paper by your second day of class..
