Frequently Asked Questions

Is late work accepted in your class?

Late homework is accepted up to one week after the due date if it is neat and complete. All late work will earn 50% credit. After one week, it will become a “0” in the grade book and cannot be made up. It is very important that your work is completed on time in order to keep up with the curriculum.

How do I make up work if I am absent?

You can only make up absent work if your absence was excused, in which case you will need to copy down the homework assignment from the Homework & Agenda binder in the white bubble bin on the desk next to the entrance. To locate the assignment, you need to determine the day(s) and week(s) of your absence then look up the week number on the tab of the file folder in the white bubble bin to find your homework.

What should I do if I don't understand an assignment?

If you don't understand an assignment, read and work through the examples in the book. You can also ask your friend or go over the class’ notes. If you still don't understand the assignment, then ask me. I am available before and after school for additional help if you need it. Please make arrangements ahead of time.

Can I retake Quizzes or tests?

I'm sorry, but unfortunately, you may not retake the Weekly HW Quizzes. If you have completed the homework successfully (success on HW equals attempting all problems and re-doing the incorrect ones with ALL your work shown), you should be able to do well on the quizzes because the problems on the Weekly HW Quizzes are taken directly from your in-class and homework problems.

On the other hand, you do have the option of retaking the end-of-chapter tests. To retake a test, you must (1) make all the corrections on a separate sheet of paper, (2) turn the corrections with the test back in to me for verification, and (3) take the test within one week of me handing it back. Your final score will be the average of your first attempt and the retake if your score improves. If your score does not improve on the retake, I will keep the original score.

What do I do if I am late to class?

If you are late to class, you need to have a written note from a teacher or a staff member at Cascade. If you do not have a written note, you will be marked tardy. The consequences for unexcused tardies are:

1 - 2       Reminder/Warning

3 - 6       Lunch Detention (each time after 3!)

7 - 8       Parent Contact & After School

              Detention

9 & Up   Parent Contact & Friday Night School

What strategies can I use to make sure I am successful in your class?

The best strategies to ensure your success are:

  • Listen to all instructions
  • Take complete and thorough notes
  • Complete all assignments neatly, showing ALL your work
  • Ask questions and get help when needed
  • Study for quizzes and tests
  • Take responsibility for your learning!

If you have trouble keeping up with notes, look at the section that we will be going over the night before so you have a rough idea of the types of problems we will be going over the next day.

When do Progress Reports go home?

Progress Reports are sent home with students on Wednesday, usually every two weeks (this could vary during the holidays). The Titans team expects the cover sheet to be signed by a parent/guardian and returned to the homeroom teacher by the following Monday.
