Classroom Expectations

Learning is something that can only happen in a classroom that is safe and fair for all students. Classroom rules are put in place to ensure this happens!

My classroom expectations will help create a positive learning environment for your child. Your child will be responsible for their own behavior and will be asked to monitor their own behavior throughout the day. It is my hope that your child will become a stronger role model for the Chinook community.

Classroom Rules:

1.    Be Kind

2.   Be Respectful

3.   Be Safe

4.  Be Responsible

On the first day of school, we discussed what these rules mean to the class. Students gave examples of each rule; what it should look like and what is doesn’t look like. We brainstormed thousands of examples in order to decrease the confusion around each rule. Please ask your child what these rules mean to them!

Following the classroom rules are extremely important to me. I feel that I am a very positive person and would like to see each child be recognized more when they do good things than bad. Each individual in the classroom has the opportunity to earn “Bravo Bucks”. These are bucks that students can build up and use to buy rewards in the classroom. Some examples of the rewards include: buying a comfortable chair for the day, inviting a friend for lunch, and much, much more.

Individual Consequences:

Times when I am not able to reward and instead need to intervene on a behavior, I follow a certain number of steps. I like to think that failure to follow the rules is something that a child can correct on their own and I like to give them ample opportunities to correct their behavior. If a student shows that they cannot correct their own behavior, consequences will be used:

First Time a rule is broken: I remind student that they might not be making the right choices.

Second Time: I will ask students to sign the “warning” clipboard.

Third Time: I will ask students to go to think time. Think time is when a student needs to leave the classroom for some time to think about their behavior and write about what they are doing wrong. If a student receives five or more think times, the forms will start coming home and will need to be signed and returned. All think times after the fifth one will require a  parent signature!

If a student continues this behavior, more severe consequences will be given.
