Rules and Policies

Students in every grade come to the library once a week. A typical library class begins with the students meeting at their assigned seats on the carpet. Next, they are shown their assignment for the day. The students then check out books and complete their assignment.

Students check out books for one week. Kindergarteners checkout out one book, and all other grades check out two books. If a student fails to return his or her books, the student will not be able to check out new books. Also, he or she may not be able to work on the computer during library class.

If a book is damaged or lost, a fine is assessed. Hardcover books usually cost $14, paperback books and magazines usually cost $3. Alternately, students may bring another book of the same kind to replace a lost or damaged book.

While in the library, students will:

• Respect themselves by having a positive attitude and showing self control

• Respect others by cooperating and sharing

• Respect our time by coming in quickly and quietly, and by starting and stopping on time

• Respect school equipment by caring for the books, the computers, and using their shelf markers

• Be a responsible learner by listening, following directions, and participating positively.
