Chinook ECE |

Welcome to our class! At Chinook, we provide a structured environment for all children. In this environment, children are allowed to choose from multiple learning activities. These activities have a variety of purposes, ultimately teaching responsibility and independence. |
While in our room, you will meet: |

Volunteers: We love to have guests and families in our room. You are welcome to come in at any time to visit. We ask that you simply check into to the office. Please remember that class time is your child’s learning time. If you have any questions about an activity please ask the teacher or therapist. |
Preschool is four days a week. We will be having school Monday through Thursday. On Friday, Chinook offers different family activities, such as; skating, parent education classes, recreational visits, etc… Chinook ECE meets from 9:10 to 11:40 for the morning class. The afternoon class is from 1:05 to 3:35 |
Transportation If you child rides the bus, please remember to call transportation if your child will not need to be picked up. The number is 253 931-4938. The drivers REALLY appreciate this. It will save them a lot of time. |
NOTES… We like to be in daily contact with our families to share the little and big successes, however, we find it nearly impossible to find the time. We have found weekly newsletters to be an effective way to let you know what our classes are doing. To keep in better contact, we would like to use a spiral notebook. In the past, we have asked parents to keep a notebook in their child’s backpack. This makes jotting notes so much easier. Notebooks enable us to communicate more often. We will check your child’s notebook for notes from you everyday upon arrival. Please check for notes from us as your child arrives home. In addition, if we leave the pages in your child’s notebook, it will become a journal of your child’s school year. |
Arrival Time: When the children arrive at school to like to encourage them to be as independent as possible. The children hang up their own coats and packs. Once they have taken care of their belongings, they choose an activity. |
Bus: Some of our children ride the bus. This seems like a scary time for parents. Most children love it though!!! The staff will meet your child at the bus door and walk them in to class. When it is time to go home we walk them to the bus and help the driver buckle them up! |
Free Choice: We have Free Choice time at Chinook. During this time your child will be developing communication, social and motor skills. Work during this time is child directed. We attempt to provide a variety of activities in several areas of the classroom. |
Motor Group: We do an ACTIVE group with Miss Jean in the therapy room one time a week. This group is designed to teach the children how to move their bodies in a more purposeful way. In addition, we work on breathing and stretching exercises. These exercises are based on a program called Brain Gym. |
Recess: We go to recess each day. Outdoor play is designed to give the children some fresh air and gross motor movement. While outside, the children ride bikes, climb on the slide and play ball. |
Circle Time: During circle time, each child gets to choose a job. These jobs may be to choose the song from our song basket, be the line leader, weather person, or color helper. There are several jobs to choose from. Although this is a teacher directed activity, the children are involved in many ways to make it a meaningful learning experience. |
Small Groups and Center Time: In our room, we use a small group approach to learning. During instructional or group work time, the children are divided into three work table groups. Each of these groups work with at least on adult at a time to follow directions, complete a task and take turns. |
We end each day with a story and our Bye-Bye Book. The children join in the reading of their favorite book. This gives them the repetition and structure needed to end each day. |
