Homework Expectations

There will be homework every night (the only exception will be if there is a school function that night).  Monday through Thursday students will bring home a double sided worksheet, which will have a math assignment on one side and reading on the other.  The homework for Friday night is to have you sign the weekly calendar/parent letter and bring it back to me on Monday.
While all homework is a review of what we worked on in class that day, it does your student no good to practice doing things incorrectly.  Therefore, it is of the highest importance that you work with your student and/or go over your student's homework every night.  If for some reason the homework cannot be done (you might not have the materials required for example) please attach a note explaining that you did look at it.  That way I will know that your student just didn't do it.  When a note is attached your student will be excused from that assignment.
Most of your student's graded work will come home from school on Fridays stapled to the weekly calendar/parent letter.  This is your chance to look through your student's work that has been entered into the grade book.  Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.  Feel free to write questions on the calendar and send it back to school with your student, give me a call, or send me an email.
On the back side of the calendar is a letter to you that will be filled in by your student.  It will tell you how many assignments your student turned in on time for the week, how many assignments were late, how many assignments were missing, and how many times I had to talk to your student about his or her behavior.  There is also a place on that letter where your student and I agree on one word that bests describes his or her behavior for the week.
The calendar/parent letter is an efficient way to communicate how your student is doing.  However, for it to work I need your participation every week.  Students who do not return their calendar signed will not go to recess until it is returned.

                                                                                                                                Sincerely,
