Chinook Nature Trail

The Chinook Nature Area originated in 1970 under the direction of Principal Bud Kulman. It was used by the staff for lessons at all grade levels.

When Mr. Rob Robinson arrived at Chinook in 2001, the trail was neglected and overgrown. The metal bench rests were there, but no benches. He first appealed to the PTSA for funds, but it became clear that the project would require much more than they could readily supply. He began writing grants and in the spring of 2002 received one from the City of Auburn. He organized the Nature Trail Club in February of 2003 and the club worked all available Thursdays until the week of June 2-6. There were 21 students in the club, although two moved away before the project was completed.

The classroom area, with new benches, has been restored and a shed with equipment to maintain the trail lies just behind the music room. We will have a Nature Trail Club every year to maintain and build on the Trail.
