Evergreen Height's Attendance Policy
|
|
Students
will attend regularly scheduled classes unless officially excused.
Washington State Compulsory Attendance Law
(Becca Law) and Auburn School District policy require
parents/guardians to ensure students ages six to eighteen years of age, attend
school every day school is in session.
Students must attend school regularly and be
on time to classes. The single greatest
reason students fail classes and do not graduate is irregular attendance. This is the case even when absences are
excused, but become excessive. Tardiness
is another form of poor attendance.
There are occasions when students do need to miss
school and are excused. Reasons for
excused absences are: injury or illness; authorized student activities; school
sponsored activities; religious holidays; doctor and dental appointments;
special non-school activities; and absences prearranged at the discretion of
the principal.
If one of these situations
arises, a parent should telephone the school office before the start of the
school day, or send a note to the office the day before the absence.
Students arriving late to
school must go to the school office for an admittance slip.

Evergreen Height's "Think Time"Policy
|
|
The Evergreen Height's staff is
committed to quality education for all students. All students deserve the most positive
educational climate possible for academic and social growth.
Our discipline program includes a
technique called “Think Time” to create a positive climate when any student
exhibits a behavior that disrupts the classroom environment. The technique emphasizes the seriousness of
education, respectfulness of the classroom environment, and the importance of
students taking responsibility for their own behavior. “Think Time” has two parts: First part is designed to allow students to
focus and gain self-control by asking them to either sit off to the side or
temporarily go to another classroom. The
second part is designed to provide the student feedback about their behavior
and an opportunity to plan for future success in the classroom.
The parent will be notified when your
child has been directed to “Think Time” three or more times within a school
week. Additionally, your assistance
would be appreciated if problems persist or if a problem is unusually
challenging.

|
Evergreen Height's Harassment Philosophy
|
|
Harassment is any
unwelcome and unwanted behavior that interferes with a student’s privacy or
makes him or her feel uncomfortable. All students are protected from
discrimination and harassment on the basis of race, sex, religion, national
origin, and disability. If someone persists in an unwelcome behavior after he
or she has been requested to stop, or if this behavior results in a student
wanting to stay away from school, it is harassment. Unwelcome and/or uninvited
sexual advances, requests for sexual favor, and other verbal or physical
conduct of a sexual nature may constitute sexual harassment. A student who
believes he or she has been subjected to sexual harassment is strongly
encouraged to bring this to the immediate attention of a teacher, principal, or
office personnel, as appropriate, without fear of reprisal. Complaints of
sexual harassment will be investigated by appropriate personnel.
Examples of inappropriate
behaviors which will be considered harassment include:
Using derogatory
terms for a person.
Inappropriately
touching another person.
Making unwanted
remarks, gestures or jokes.
Complaints of harassment will
be promptly investigated and immediate action will be taken to resolve
complaints. No individual will suffer
reprisals for reporting incidents or making complaints.
