Pioneer 2008-2009 School of Distinction

Teachers and staff of Pioneer Elementary School proudly display their well-earned ‘school of distinction’ banner. - Gary Kissel/Reporter

Pioneer Elementary School was selected as one of only 98 schools statewide to receive the State Superintendent’s Learning Improvement Award.

The award celebrates the top 5 percent of elementary, middle, high and alternative schools that exceeded this year’s state average performance on the Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL) exam in reading and mathematics, as well as demonstrated outstanding improvement over time in both subjects.

Mission Statement

At Pioneer, we dedicate ourselves to students and their families, to inspire and empower children to achieve their greatest academic and social potential.

The Pioneer School Community

The Pioneer staff provides a highly positive environment where staff continually assess and improve the quality of the school’s academic and social programs.  Pioneer is committed to a School Improvement Plan that emphasizes three academic areas: reading, math, and writing,  with a new fourth emphasis being focused on bullying prevention. Pioneer continues to see tremendous increases in reading and math achievement as demonstrated by WASL results.

Another area of emphasis focuses on educating staff and students in the area of bullying prevention.  The staff at Pioneer is looking closely at the incidence of bullying as well as better methods of prevention and intervention.  Staff is working hard to create a bully-free environment.  School-wide training in recognizing the characteristics of bullying behavior and identifying bullying prevention strategies take place each year.  Training has been provided in conjunction with the Puget Sound Educational Service

Pioneer and the Auburn School District offer strong, specific, professional development for the improvement of students’ reading, math, and writing skills.  Pioneer is a great place for students to learn and grow.
