Parent/Teacher
Conferences
In November, conferences are scheduled with parents for the purpose of reporting student progress. At the request of either the teacher or the parent, additional conferences may also be scheduled. To arrange for a conference, call or write a note to the teacher.
These conferences are scheduled in the fall for all kindergarten and first grade students and their parents. These provide opportunities for the student to meet the teacher and become familiar with the classroom before the entire class is convened.
A lost and found box is located in the school office for articles lost at school. Articles lost on buses are usually kept by the bus drivers for a period of time and then turned into the lost and found department at the bus garage. Transportation may be reached by calling 931-4938.
Each fall, arrangements are made with a private photographer to take individual pictures of students for student records. As a service to parents, these pictures may be purchased on a prepaid basis. Classroom group pictures are taken in the spring and may also be purchased on a prepaid basis.
Because of danger of loss, students are requested not to bring more money to school than is needed during the school day. Valuable jewelry, cameras, and radios, also playthings such as bats, balls, toys, marbles, and so forth should be left at home rather than brought to school.
Please call the school office at 931-4978 before8:55 a.m. to let us know your child will be absent. If you have not called the office, we will be calling you. This is done out of concern for the safety of your child.
It is important that your child arrives at school on time. Tardiness is another form of poor attendance. Habitual tardiness is a bad habit. Children arriving late to school must be brought to the office for an admittance slip.
Absences and Excuses Acceptable reasons for absences are illness, medical or dental appointments, bereavement, religious observances, and unforeseen emergencies. If you have not had an opportunity to call the school, then upon return after an absence, a child must give the teacher a written note containing the following information:
|
|
Student's full name |
|
|
The exact date(s) of the absence. |
|
|
The reason for absence. |
|
|
The signature of parent or guardian. |

Unexcused Absences Unexcused absences are to be tracked, recorded, and acted upon according to Washington State Law. Parents are held accountable for their child's unexcused absences.
Bicycle Policy Due to limited facilities and hazardous riding conditions for students attending Terminal Park Elementary School, bicycles are restricted to students in grades three through five. Students who ride their bicycles MUST wear a helmet and are to walk their bikes when they arrive on the school grounds. While at school, bikes must be kept locked in the bike rack.
To prevent overloading buses, district regulations state that students
ride only the buses assigned to them to and from school. Students may not transfer from
bus to bus nor may walkers ride home on buses with their friends. Because of hazardous
highway conditions, bus riders are not allowed to walk to their homes. However, a bus
rider may receive permission to walk to the home of anon-bus riding friend by bringing a
written parental request to the office before departing school grounds. No bus rider may
stay after school without a written note from a parent.
