At Washington we have two Structured Learning Classrooms (SLC). These classrooms focus on specific IEP goals and objectives for students who need specialized instruction in a smaller classroom setting. We focus on improving social, academic, cognitive, self-help/adaptive, as well as behavioral skills. We have two different classrooms; one is kindergarten/first/second & third graders, and one for first/second/third graders. Each class has around 10 students. We work closely with the team of physical therapists, speech therapist, and occupational therapists to meet all of their needs. Our students enjoy spending time with their typically developing peers at recess, assemblies, PE, library, as well as some academic times (when appropriate). Our students really enjoy the warm, welcoming environment at Washington, where students learn as early as kindergarten to look for the similarities in everyone, and to not focus on the differences. |
