‘Fairness’ is our word for success for the month of January.  We have learned about how Martin Luther King, Jr. stood up for fairness.

We made and read a mini book about Martin Luther King Jr.  Then we used a Flow Map to put the events of his life in chronological order.  Read this with your child.  We also talked about Dr. King’s dream for people.  Then, we wrote about our dreams for the world.  

Text Box: In reading groups, we sequenced how to make hot chocolate, worked with high frequency words, drew and wrote about a butterfly.  We read books with Ms. Johnson.  We also sequenced the lifecycle of a butterfly and had to write about it.

WRITING  
We each got our own word list to keep in our desk to help us figure out how to book spell some words.  We also started writing the names of our classmates in these.  We used them to help us write in our journals this week.  We learned some interesting facts about insects and wrote about Text Box: Miss Jen, our Auburn High School Careers in Education student, finished up her Junior Achievement lessons  and will now be in our room helping and learning about being a teacher.

We have library every Tuesday.  Please remember to return library books, so that a new book can be checked out.
Text Box: We have P.E. every Tuesday.  Please remember to wear good gym shoes and clothes.

·    Look for the homework packet to come home on Monday.  It is due on Friday, January 26th.

·    Remember to practice the spelling words.  Spelling practice idea:  use pretzels or licorice to spell out the words.  The spelling test will be on Friday.

It has been quite cold this week.  Please send your child with warm clothing to wear out to recess.
