Text Box: Writing
We used quotation marks to write what our pumpkins were saying.  We are learning about the “telling” part of a sentence.  We also wrote in our journals.

Reading
Our story this week was  Boots for Beth.
Focus of the Week:
High-Frequency Words: could, friends, new, put, she, use
Comprehension: Cause and Effect
Phonics:  th
Your child may be going to a different room during guided reading time.  Text Box: This is so that everyone is reading books at their level and allows for smaller reading groups.

In reading centers, we   read some stories with Ms. Johnson, read our high frequency words, practiced spelling words, made a mini-book about “Five Little Pumpkins”, worked on the computer, and sequenced how to make a jack o’ lantern.

This week we read many stories.  One of our favorites was Porkenstein.  Ask your child what happened to the big, bad wolf from this story.

Text Box: Science
We started learning about bats this week.  Ask your child something he/she learned about bats.

TEDDY BEAR MASQUERADE PARADE
We had a great Be Enthusiastic About Reading day.  We listened to many different stories.  We also had fun parading our stuffed animals around to show all of the other classes in the school.
Text Box: Math
For some fall fun, we played a game called Roll—A—Bat where we rolled a die to determine which part of the bat we could draw.  We kept track of how many rolls Text Box: it took us to make the whole bat by  using tally marks.  We also completed a cat and bat addition page.  
From Ms. Ironmonger:
We will be finishing up unit three next week.  Some of the things we Text Box: will  be learning in unit four will be reading a thermometer and measuring and comparing lengths using nonstandard units.  
At home, practice making tally marks and  counting by 2’s and 5’s.
Text Box: Conference Schedule Forms came home Wednesday, November 1st.  Please fill out and return the bottom portion to school.  I look forward to meeting 
with you to discuss your child’s progress.

HOMEWORK

Homework packets will come home on Monday and are due Thursday.

Social Studies

Our two Time for Kids this week were about the space shuttle and Veteran Memorials.  We went outside to the front of our school to look at our own  memorial for Dick Scobee, the astronaut who went to Washington Elementary.
