Welcome to Third Grade

Third grade at Washington Elementary is a challenging year for students!  They make the transition from primary to intermediate and are introduced to letter grades for the first time.  By the end of the year students should be comfortable writing papers in cursive and know their multiplication facts.  Students will also be introduced to division.  In celebration of learning their multiplication facts, the students earn a banana split party.  Every part of the banana split represents mastery of different multiplication facts.  Third graders enjoy these challenges and come to appreciate hard work.

Third graders work all year on developing study skills.  They are responsible for completing a weekly homework packet which is due every Friday morning.  Third grade is the first year students will be responsible for keeping an organized binder.

Our goal as third grade teachers is to focus on high expectations for the students and help them make the transition from primary students to responsible independent workers.  We expect the students to do their very best at all times in order to prepare themselves for the challenges of the intermediate grades.
