Academic Excellence

At Washington School we believe learning is fun, exciting, and very important. To encourage learning we are continuing the Academic Excellence/Academic Achievement program. Listed below is a description of the academic recognition program which begins with each grading period. The program consists of two levels as follows:

ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT LEVEL.

Primary: This is awarded to students who, in grades 1 and 2, receive at least a satisfactory check mark for all subjects and special classes. They must also receive at least a check in all Study Skills, Social Skills, and Work Skills categories.

A minus in any report card area would disqualify a student from receiving an Achievement Award.

Intermediate: This is awarded to students in grades 3 through 5 receive at least a "B" for all subjects and specialist classes. They must also receive at least a satisfactory check mark in all Study Skills, Social Skills, and Work Skills categories.

A "C" or a minus in any report card area would disqualify a student from receiving an Achievement Award.

ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE LEVEL.

Primary: This is awarded to students who, in the primary grades 1 and 2 have more +'s than satisfactory check marks for all subject areas. They must also have more +'s than checks in all Study Skills, Social Skills, and Work Skills categories.

Any "C" grade on the report card will exclude a student from this award.

A "D" grade on the report card will exclude a student from an award.

Certificates will be presented to the parents at the first conference and included with the report card the second and third grading period.

Students who receive the Academic Excellence Award will have their names posted in the hall. Please take a few minutes and review this program with your child. I hope each student will set a goal to receive one of these awards this year.

After School Activities

Washington School offers several different extra-curricular activities for students. These often take place after school hours and students are expected to arrange for their own transportation home. The school does not provide this for students. Some of the activities we offer are:

Basketball:

For fifth grade.

Volleyball:

For fifth grade.

If you would like to see other activities offered, give your suggestions to the principal, counselor, or your teacher. Students enjoy the different activities. More information about each of these will be sent home later in the school year. I hope you will be able to sign up and participate in an activity this year.
