• Second grade studentswill be able to read 98 correct words per minutes on a cold grade level passage.
  
  
• Second grade students addition and subtraction fact combination up to 20
  
  
• Second grade students will be able to write an expository and narraitive passage with and opening, closing sentence and simple details.

Special Events

Second grade at Hazelwood is a very special year! In 2nd grade it’s all about becoming masters of the basics! Students come in as emerging readers, writers and with a good understanding of addition and subtraction. But during this magical year, reading becomes fluent, writing goes from sentences to essays, and students strive to become Math Masters in memorizing basic addition and subtraction facts all the way to twenty! It is a year of making sure their learning foundation is solid so that they can move on to higher level learning with success! Students in 2nd grade look forward to some very special units of study including frogs, spiders, polar regions, the Amazon Rainforest, and Mexico and Cinco de Mayo!

2 sturdy folder with pockets across the bottom

24 #2 yellow pencils with erasers / sharpened

School box - large enough for all supplies

4 “Sharpie” pens - black / 2 fine-tip / 2 ultra fine

1 "Vis-a-vis" black fine tip pen

1 box of crayons / 16 at least

Markers / 8 pack

Colored pencils / 8 pack

4 large pink erasers

1 pair of scissors

2 large glue sticks

4 oz. bottle of “Elmer’s” white glue

4 dry erase markers/dark color

1 large box of tissues

2 boxes of wet baby wipes

1 ream of white copy paper
